International Buddhist Confederation
The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is a global umbrella Buddhist body headquartered in New Delhi, India.
Established under the patronage of the supreme Buddhist religious hierarchy of all Buddhist traditions, IBC was formally registered in India under the Societies Registration Act 1860 in 2012. It currently has a membership, drawn from 39 countries, of over 320 organizations, both monastic and lay, that include world bodies, national and regional federations, orders, temple bodies and monasteries, international organizations and institutions.
IBC includes in its governing structure both the Buddhist Sangha as well as laity. The organization stands for transparency, inclusiveness and a balanced representation of various traditions, gender, and bodies - both monastic and lay - from all over the world, including the emerging Buddhist communities in Africa, the Caribbean and South America.
The motto of IBC is “Collective Wisdom, United Voice”. Thus the organization provides a platform to project a united voice and common response based on the collective wisdom of all Buddhist traditions. Recognizing that human civilization today faces many challenges such as conflict, violence, extremism, discrimination, injustice, inequality, materialism, environmental degradation, natural disasters and more, IBC seeks solutions to issues of global concern within the principles and values contained in Buddha’s teachings.
